"Volidai Abdulazizkhan" Mosque

Volidai Abdulazizkhan Mosque is located in the Havzi Nav neighborhood and belongs to the historic Juybor district of Bukhara. The Juybor area occupies the southwestern part of the old city.

The mosque consists of two sections: a winter mosque and a summer mosque. The winter mosque features a large domed hall, while the summer section includes a domed prayer room and an iwan. The khanaqah associated with the mosque was dedicated to the mother of Abdulazizkhan, suggesting that the complex was built during the 16th century.

After the death of his father, Ubaydullah Khan, Abdulazizkhan became the ruler of Bukhara in 1540. His spiritual mentor was Hazrat Sheikh Jalol. Abdulazizkhan was known for his generosity toward dervishes and Sufi communities. He composed ghazals in both Uzbek and Persian-Tajik and was a skilled calligrapher, particularly renowned for his mastery of the Nastaliq script.

During his reign, Abdulazizkhan commissioned numerous architectural monuments in Bukhara. Among them were the Volidai Abdulazizkhan Mosque, as well as the mausoleums and khanaqahs of the Hazrat Bahauddin Naqshband complex. Abdulazizkhan passed away in 1550 at the age of forty-one.

Before Uzbekistan gained independence, the mosque was used as a warehouse and a cotton-processing facility. Following independence, it was included in the country's cultural heritage register and today functions as an active mosque serving the religious needs of local residents.
