Abdulla Khan's Tim, also known as Abdulla Khan's Trade Dome, is a traditional indoor market in the historical center of Bukhara, Uzbekistan. It was built in the 16th century, more precisely in 1577, during the official reign of Iskandar Khan of the Uzbek Shaybanid dynasty. At that time, the true ruler of the Bukhara Khanate was his son, Abdulla Khan II.

Abdullakhan Tim (also known as Timi Abdullakhan or Timi Kalon) is one of the largest covered trading domes of the Bukhara Khanate. It was built in 1577 during the reign of the Shaybanid ruler Abdullah Khan II and is now included in the National Register of Immovable Cultural Heritage Sites of Uzbekistan.

History

Abdullakhan Tim was constructed as a covered marketplace primarily for the sale of textiles and fabrics. Located along Bukhara’s main commercial street, the structure featured six arched entrances and a central domed hall surrounded by trading shops. For centuries, merchants sold silk, wool, and other valuable fabrics here, while foreign traders also conducted business within the market.

Historical sources indicate that the arcade contained about 56 shops, arranged beneath vaulted galleries. Natural light entered through openings in the large central dome. The market was once known for its famous silk bazaar and was one of the most important commercial centers of Bukhara.

Today, the building continues to serve commercial purposes and houses carpet shops, handicraft stores, and souvenir stalls.

Architecture

Abdullakhan Tim is the largest covered market structure in Bukhara. The building has a rectangular plan measuring approximately 39 × 42 meters. Three sides are enclosed, while the main entrance is marked by a monumental portal. The central hall, about 10 meters in diameter, is covered by a large dome with arched openings that provide natural lighting and ventilation.

The structure is built of baked brick and surrounded by vaulted corridors containing domed shops. Despite multiple restorations over the centuries, it has preserved its unique architectural character and remains one of the finest examples of Bukhara’s historic trading architecture.
