Саййид Амир Кулол – настоящие имена Саййид Амир Калон ас-Сухари, родился в кишлаке Сухор близ Бухары (ныне кишлак Янги хаёт Каганского района).
Khoja Sayyid Amir Kulol, popularly known as Kalon (“The Great”), was a distinguished Hanafi scholar, Sufi master, and the spiritual mentor of Bahauddin Naqshband.
Sayyid Amir Kulol was born in 1281 in the village of Sukhor (present-day Yangihayot village in Kagan District) into a family of potters. According to historical accounts, he was a tall and strong man with broad shoulders, sharp eyes, and a humble character. In his youth, he practiced traditional wrestling, which gave him remarkable physical strength.
At the age of fifteen, during a wrestling competition, he met his future spiritual guide, Sheikh Muhammad Bobo Samosi. Recognizing the young man’s potential, the sheikh predicted his future greatness and accepted him as a disciple. For the next twenty years, Amir Kulol devoted himself to serving and learning from his master.
He later became one of Muhammad Bobo Samosi’s leading successors and was entrusted with the spiritual guidance of the young Bahauddin Naqshband, who would eventually found the famous Naqshbandi Sufi order. Among Amir Kulol’s many students were Bahauddin Naqshband, Mawlana Arif Deggarani, Khoja Jamol Degay, and other prominent Sufi figures.
Historical chronicles also mention that Amir Kulol was the first spiritual mentor of Amir Timur (Tamerlane), whom he met in 1363. He trained his disciples in strict moral discipline, teaching them to avoid even minor sins, as small wrongdoings could eventually lead to greater ones.
Sayyid Amir Kulol lived for about ninety years and passed away in November 1370. Today, a memorial complex stands at his burial site in Kagan District of Bukhara Region. The complex includes a mausoleum, a Friday mosque, a minaret, a small pond, and a large garden. Fully restored in 2008, it remains an important pilgrimage destination for Muslims from Uzbekistan and abroad.
