A striking example of 19th-century architecture, it was renowned not only for its wealthy, millionaire merchant owner but also for its magnificent appearance, reminiscent of a luxury hotel. Today, it is a place of worship where one can experience the history and culture of the late 19th and 20th centuries and see unique examples of commercial life, furniture, interiors, and art of that time.

The Fayzulla Khojayev House Museum is a memorial museum located in the historic center of Bukhara. It is dedicated to the prominent statesman Fayzulla Khojayev and is housed in his family residence. The complex covers about 3 hectares and consists of separate courtyards for men and women, reflecting the traditional lifestyle of wealthy Bukharan families.

The house was built in the late 19th century by Fayzulla Khojayev’s father, Ubaydullakhoja, in the style of traditional Bukhara architecture. After Khojayev was executed during the Stalinist purges, the residence was neglected for some time and later used by various institutions. In 1991, it was opened as a museum, and in 2023 the complex underwent major restoration and was reopened to visitors.

Architecture and Exhibitions

The museum preserves richly decorated rooms, carved wooden columns, painted ceilings, and traditional interiors. Exhibits showcase the lifestyle of a wealthy Bukharan merchant family at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. Visitors can see traditional furniture, carpets, embroidery, Chinese and European porcelain, Russian samovars, gramophones, clocks, and other imported goods.

The museum also displays photographs, personal belongings, and documents related to Fayzulla Khojayev and his family, providing insight into the social, cultural, and political history of Bukhara.
